Adam Catzavelos has apologised for his racist beach video, calling his k-word slur “thoughtless and insensitive”.
In the wake of the Twitter clip going viral, the businessman has been fired by his family business, St George’s Fine Foods, which has lost several major clients.
He has also been banned from the premises of his childrens’ Gauteng school.
In the video, Catzavelos, who was on a Greek beach at the time, gave a “weather forecast” in which he said there’s “not one k@ff!r in sight... f***ing heaven on earth.”
In an apology statement published in the Jacaranda News, Catzavelos writes: “I have caused unspeakable pain to every single person in South Africa...
“I have been thoughtless and insensitive and shown a complete lack of understanding of what people in our nation have endured. I have insulted so many people. I am not proud.
“I have watched my video and feel total shame... I don’t expect people to forgive me, but will spend the rest of my life repenting and trying to make up for my total lack of respect and judgement.”
He adds that he “alone made these stupid and foolish comments” and his remarks were not a reflection of the thoughts of others.
“I love South Africa and am proud to have lived in such a beautiful and diverse country.
“So many people have put their love and time into healing South Africa and people like me saying and doing stupid things make it difficult for South Africa to progress...
“I apologise unreservedly for the hurt and harm I have caused.
“To my family, my mom, dad, wife, brother and sisters and children who mean the world to me, I am so, so sorry,” he said.
