US President Donald Trump and the White House were
silent Saturday on the death of former UN secretary general Kofi
Annan, while predecessor Barack Obama remembered the diplomat's
tireless "pursuit of a better world."
Trump, who was spending the weekend at his private golf resort in
Bedminster, New Jersey, with no public events scheduled, tweeted
eight times after the death was announced with no mention of Annan.
In a statement, Obama said that Annan "embodied the mission of the
United Nations like few others."
"His integrity, persistence, optimism, and sense of our common
humanity always informed his outreach to the community of nations,"
the former president said.
