Angry Parkwood residents marched to the home of gang members after an innocent man was shot and killed in the street on Saturday.

The heartbroken family of Nezaamodien “Katte” Toontjies, 28, have called for urgent action against skollies they say attacked him near his home in Parker’s Walk.

Cousin Iaisha Adams, 35, says she is still traumatised after seeing the gentle stableman bleeding to death in the street after being shot in the head.

Residents say during a riot last week when the community attacked an alleged rapist, Katte called for calm but got into an argument with a skollie.

“He is not friends with that guy, he just told the people that if they kill him they will go to jail,” a resident said.

“He told them to be calm and hand the guy over to police and then one of the Junky Funkys got into a fight with him.”

Adams says on Saturday morning Nezaamodien went to collect a horse at the stables on a nearby veldjie and she heard skote.

“I went to go look and told my auntie they shot him. When I got there he was already gone.

“We are so heartsore that he died like that and he is not even a gangster.”

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, says no arrests have been made.

Residents vowed to take action.

“We marched to the Junky Funkys in Moosa Walk. If the police don’t arrest them, we will take care of them.

“They just shot him over nothing and Katte didn’t deserve that,” a resident said.
