A little boy, who found the body of a baby in the bush, thought he was looking at female breasts when he peered into the sakkie.
The boy’s aunt says the child and his two friends are shocked and traumatised by his find as he thinks it’s his fault.
The baby was found in Saxonsea in Atlantis on Sunday.
Posting on the Atlantis News and Info Facebook group, the aunt said her six-year-old nephew found the baby, which he mistook for breasts.
“He told me, ‘Mamma, come see it’s really breasts’, I took it as nonsense,” she says.
“Little did I know there's a baby in the plastic bags.
“When I approached him he said they were playing and went shopping, like child-play shopping, and then picked up this bag and saw the baby inside, which were breasts, according to him.”
She says when she went to go look, she saw the baby full of blood in the sakkie.
She says her nephew along with two other boys, both eight years old, are still shocked.
“My nephew thinks he is in trouble for making the discovery.
“The baby was probably lying face down in the bag and they mistook his buttocks for breasts,” she says. “What a horrible discovery.”
Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana says the baby was found at Espiegel Street just after 6pm.
“A case docket of concealment of birth was registered and an investigation is underway by Atlantis SAPS. No arrests have been made so far.”
