The Mitchells Plain father who stabbed his drug addict son to death in self-defence was set free this week.
Dad Sedick Abrahams says he can finally move on with his life while continuing to mourn his son, who had terrorised him and his wife for years.
On Tuesday, a magistrate at the Mitchells Plain Regional Court found the 63-year-old not guilty of murder.
Abrahams made headlines last year when he told of how he and his family had suffered for 13 years with the drug addiction of his son, Clinton.
Clinton was 28 and had become a “tik monster”, tormenting and threatening his family inside their Tafelsig home.
On 31 January 2018, Abrahams said he had been home and was busy hanging up the laundry when Clinton asked him for food.
Abrahams said Clinton’s food was on the kitchen table, but when he told his son this, Clinton insisted his father give it to him himself.
Abrahams explained that often when Clinton was high, he would become violent.
On that fateful day, he said Clinton picked up a knife and that he was scared of his son.
Abrahams said he fought his son to get the knife away from him, and accidentally stabbed him in the chest.
Clinton passed away and Abrahams was arrested.
He was granted R500 bail and attended all of his court appearances after his arrest.
SUPPORT: Joanie Fredericks with Sedick at Mitchells Plain court
An emotional Abrahams, supported by his wife and community members, would often be seen crying before court proceedings.
On Thursday, Abrahams told the Daily Voice he could now finally get on with his life.
“I feel much better. The magistrate said she had read the summary of the case, and asked me what had happened,” the emotional dad said.
“I told her what happened. And then she said I can go home, that I am free. I believe that I can go on with my life now.”
Joanie Fredericks, of the Mitchells Plain Impact Association who has been supporting the family, posted a statement by the father on social media shortly after his release.
