A mother from Grassy Park says she nearly died after biting into this muf pie, which expired in February LAST YEAR.
Elrita Jaftha, 40 says on Saturday on her way home from work, she went into The Bargain Store in Kestrel Way, Parkwood, to get a snack.
She paid R15 for the Man’s Meal Pepper steak pie.
“I asked them to warm the pie for me and they tore the paper open to put it in the microwave. When he handed me the heated pie, I thanked him and walked out. I immediately opened the bag and wanted to eat it,” she said.
That was when she looked at the pie properly and saw it was grasgroen with muf.
“I was naar and sick to my stomach. I was just about to take a bite when I saw the colour. There was green mould all over the pie,” says Elrita.
“I immediately turned around to take it back and demand my money back.

“He just gave me my money and wanted to take the pie. I said no because I want to expose them.
They could have poisoned me.
The store owner, who did not want to provide his name, said they had no idea the pie was old.
“We reimbursed the customer. We order boxes from a wholesaler and don’t open the pies when they are bought. We did not realise they were expired,” he said.
But Elrita wants to know how a pie that expired more than a year ago could still be sold.
“We are not animals and you cannot sell filth to people,” she says.
