THE woman accused of burning down Racquel “Kelly” Smith’s house says she “did it for Joshlin”.
Monique Kekana appeared for the second time in the Vredenburg Magistrates Court on Monday and was granted R500 bail on a charge of arson.
The 27-year-old spoke to the media after leaving the courthouse and says she has no regrets after setting fire to the shack from which Joshlin went missing on 19 February 2024.
Kekana torched the hokkie hours after Kelly and her co-accused, berk Jacquen “Boeta” Appollis and their chommie Steveno “Steffie” van Rhyn were found guilty of kidnapping and trafficking the green-eyed meisie on 2 May.
Her case was postponed to 27 June.
Outside the courthouse, Kekana admitted to the crime, telling eNCA: “I did it for all the mothers out there.
“I was very angry, emotional, and that’s why I did what I did.”
The mother of two then took aim at Kelly, claiming that she wanted rek her bek and reveal what happened to Joshlin after being found guilty of selling her child for R20 000.
Kekana adds: “She knows where the child is and she knows the child is not dead. I just wanted to open her mouth because we are also mothers.
“So I did it because I’m also a mother. I was also arrested, but I learned from my mistake.
How can you just sell your child just like that? Just for money. How can a mother do what she did?”
