A week after a loving dad, crime fighter and fisherman was shot and hijacked in front of his home in Delft, his family and friends are appealing to police to do everything in their power to catch his killers.
On Wednesday, 11 April, well-known Pastor Keith Heynes, 65, returned from church and was about to pull his bakkie, a white Nissan Hardbody with the registration number CF 127 466, into his yard when he was ambushed by gunmen.
The skelms shot the pastor and took his firearm.
The pastor’s son, who asked not to be identified, heard the gunshot and ran to help his dad.
However, the killers then also opened fire on him.
The men fled with the pastor’s firearm and his bakkie.
Crime fighter and ex-police reservist, Jamiel Spannenberg, says Pastor Heynes’ death came as a huge shock, and residents and family are now appealing for the killers to be caught and for the bakkie to be recovered.
He says the pastor was a member of the street committee and an avid angler.
“As I understand it, he came from church and was going to pull in his bakkie when he was confronted by gunmen who took his firearm,” says Jamiel.

“They shot him in the street in front of his home.
“His son heard the gunshots and ran to aid his father and they turned the gunfire on him.
“They used their own gun and the father’s.”
He says they immediately posted photos of the stolen bakkie on social media like Facebook and WhatsApp.
“We have gone viral with the pictures of the bakkie. It was spotted in Leiden and if we find that, we hope to find them (the killers),” says Jamiel.
“Keith was a kind person who would never harm anyone. We will do everything in our power for catch the people who did this.”
The Daily Voice spoke to the pastor’s son, who is still traumatised by the incident.
The young man said they hope police will do everything in their power to find his dad’s killers.
But police say no arrests have been made.
“Cases of murder and carjacking are under investigation. No suspects have been identified and the vehicle has not been recovered,” said Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana.
