TARGET: Sachin, 22
A man suspected of being a gang hitman was gunned down in broad daylight in Belhar on Friday afternoon, in the same place a well-known taxi boss was murdered three weeks ago.

A crowd gathered on the corner of Symphony Road and Erica Way where the victim, known only as Sachin, was gunned down, his white Opel Corsa bakkie parked metres away.

It is not clear how many gunmen attacked the 22-year-old, but the killers fled on foot.

A video of the crime scene has been making the rounds. In the video one can see someone leaning over Sachin’s body, while another person is picking up bullet casings in full view of everyone.

Community sources claim he was a high- ranking 28s gangster, but police could not confirm this.

Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, confirmed the shooting and says no arrests have been made.

“This office can confirm that on Friday at about 12pm, a 22-year-old man was shot and fatally wounded in Symphony Road in Belhar by unknown suspect/s [who] are yet to be arrested. The circumstances surrounding this incident are being investigated. The motive for the shooting is unknown,” he said.

Last month, Denzil Barends, 52, a taxi owner and chairman of the Bellville-Delft Taxi Association, was gunned down after he assisted one of his drivers who broke down in Symphony Road.

The suspects came running across the road and ambushed him.

He was shot through the head and found dead behind the wheel.

Police are asking anyone with information to come forward or contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
