A Heideveld dad is desperately trying to keep his teen daughter alive after she was badly injured in a hit and run incident last year.
Alrich Willis says the financial burden to care for his 15-year-old daughter has become unbearable.
Chelsea-Leigh Tiemie was seriously injured on 17 October 2020 when a car hit her while walking on Duinefontein Road in Heideveld.
Alrich says: “She and six of her friends came from Usave when a white VW Citi Golf jumped a red robot and knocked her, she landed on her head.
“When I got to the scene, she was not breathing, neither did she have a pulse.
“I did CPR on her and got her to breathe again, she was intubated on the scene and taken to Gatesville Melomed.
“She had sustained a traumatic brain injury with a diffuse axonal injury and was given less than a 5% chance of survival. She was in a coma for two weeks and in ICU for two months.”
Chelsea spent four months in rehabilitation and then contracted Covid-19.
She is currently at home where she gets occupational, speech and physiotherapy.
“The medical aid is only covering part and the rest is on me, the only breadwinner in the family,” says Alrich.
“My wife is at home to assist Chelsea’s caregiver and see to her during the night.
“The reason for my request is to assist me in funding is so that I can cover her medical needs, therapists as well as her specialised wheelchair.
“I’ve got medical bills coming out of my ears. The hospital bill is over R350 000.”
