A 40-year-old motorist was shot and killed allegedly by a hiker he’d picked up.
According to one of the passengers in the vehicle, the hiker tried to rob them at gunpoint and shot the driver, and the car, a sliver Ford Fiesta, smashed into a vibracrete wall.
The suspect fled the scene.
The three passengers in the car were treated for minor injuries while the driver was declared dead at the scene.
The incident happened in Brackenfell on Monday at 10:30 pm.
The car crashed into a vibracrete fence and house on the corner of Vygie Street and Frans Conradie Drive.

The homeowner says broken glass from his windows left his two children with minor cuts.
The car passenger says: “We were four people in the car and on Frans Conradie Drive, on our way to Brackenfell, someone stopped us at the robots near Harmony Clinic in Scottsville asking for a lift.
“In Brackenfell, he suddenly pulled out a gun and demanded our money and cellphones.
“We still argued with him, asking why he wanted to rob us when we offered him a lift, when he suddenly shot the driver in the head.
“When I came to, we were all lying outside and the skelm was gone.”
Police spokesman Lieut-Col. Andrè Traut confirmed the incident and says the suspect is still at large.
