A young girl from Melkbos is determined to raise enough money in order for her family to buy a new and bigger safe house for vulnerable kids.
Chelsea Brink, 12, and her family run a non-profit organisation called Little Brinks which provides a place of safety for neglected and abused babies and children.
At the end of 2018, Chelsea launched a BackaBuddy campaign to raise money for the family to buy a bigger house, so they could take care of even more foster children.
So far, she’s managed to raise just over R106 000, but more is needed.
Chelsea’s mother, Katherine Brink, 37 who’s the co-founder of the NPO, says: “We started off as just helping foster kids with clothing, but we now have a safe house, soup kitchen, we help out when it comes to matric dances, and we also have a soccer club where we assist children with equipment and training.”
During the lockdown, they noted more children needing a place of safety: “The parents simply cannot afford to take care of their children anymore. We also started a feeding scheme where we feed thirty families every Sunday.”
Katherine and her husband Danny live with six of their own foster children, while eight other foster children are residing in the safe house near to their home: “We’re currently taking care of five babies, the youngest being four-months-old. The eldest is 17.”
