A family from Upington is appealing for help to find their dad who has been “missing” for 27 years.
The family of Adam Cornelius Jacobus Willemse says he left Upington for Cape Town in 1992, and could now be working as a security guard in the city or a stallholder in Bellville.
His niece Lana Matthys says they never heard from him again.
“My grandmother turned 92 last year and her only wish is to see her son. So I set out on the task to try to find him,” says Lana.
“I have received information from Home Affairs that he is alive. I have checked jails, hospitals and various shelters. I then got a lead saying he was in Tamboerskloof working as a security guard,” Lana says.
She says she also contacted her uncle’s ex-wife.
“She told me she received a call a few years ago saying he was in an accident and apparently lost one leg. I contacted the Road Accident Fund and all they could confirm was that a minor claim was put in by him.”
Lana says all she wants is to know whether her uncle is alive or dead.
“I just want my grandmother’s wish to come true. On Facebook, someone sent a lead and stated he had a clothing stall at Bellville station. We really just want to find him,” Lana added.
