Manenberg residents have appealed for help in tracing a sickly oupa, who left his home two weeks ago, and never returned.
Neighbours of
Marshall Pietersen, 65, say the oupa suffers from dementia and was last seen reading a Bible under a tree opposite his home on 4 September.
Neighbour Sophia
Kalpel, 51, says they fear the worst for the elderly man who does not have family in the area, except for a 13-year-old son.
“His girlfriend died a few years ago and the child was left with him.
“He used to look well after the boy, but then we noticed some strange things, like he wasn’t all there.
“The boy is a problem child and he walks around Manenberg and we don’t know where he sleeps or where he is.”
SKETCH: Missing man
Sophia says neighbours have previously helped the oupa get into an old age home after tracing his family in Paarl.
“We spoke to his
brother and he helped us get him into a home, but in March, he jumped over the fence and then one day just appeared again in Manenberg, so we looked after him.
“On 4 September, I saw him in the morning
reading a Bible then later in the day when I wanted to take his food he was gone.
“We looked for him, but couldn’t find him. We contacted his family in Paarl, but they said he never came there. We’re worried he may be in danger.”
