Law Enforcement spokesperson, Wayne Dyason, says fishermen got a skrik when they found the man lying face down in the sewage water shortly after 8am.
“The body of an unknown man was discovered by fishermen at about 8am behind the wastewater treatment plant on Sunday,” says Dyason.
“The man was wearing a shorts and T-shirt and the fishermen alerted Law Enforcement officers who confirmed that he was dead.
“Macassar police were called to the scene and it appears that the body was dumped there overnight as the fishermen did not see a body the day before.”
Dyason says when officers took a closer look at the corpse, they found the man had burn marks on his wrists and neck.
“It was very strange and not clear how he sustained those injuries.”
Police spokesperson, Siyabulela Malo, says police have opened a murder investigation after the body of an unknown man in his 30s was discovered at Macassar beach.
“According to reports, police members attended the scene and they found the deceased lying on his face to the ground with wounds on his body.
“The circumstances surrounding this incident are being investigated with no arrests affected as yet.”
Malo has urged anyone with information to call Macassar police on 021 857 7125 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
