This Cape Flats dance duo is making their families proud as they get ready to represent SA at an international hip-hop championship.

In October, Chaye Almacin, 14, from Wynberg and Jordan Wyngaard, 13, from Zeekoevlei will be jetting off to the Netherlands for the 2017 Fisaf International World Fitness and Hip Hop Unite Championships.

The girls, who have been best friends for years, met at the Out of Africa Dance Academy where together they have been dancing up a storm since 2012.

In May they represented the academy at the Western Cape Hip Hop Unite Provincial championships and won gold.

In July they competed in the national championships and were placed third.

Chaye’s proud mother, Wendy, says the girls received their Federation colours and will now represent the country.

Chaye says she is excited yet nervous to make her country proud with her fancy footwork.

“I love dancing because it keeps my brain stimulated and keeps me out of trouble. Jordan is my best friend and we met at the academy,” she says.

“I am nervous, but I just want to make my country and my family proud.”

Jordan, who has been dancing since she was five, says she and her bestie formally practise three times a week.

“But we also go to each other’s houses to practice more. When we won the WP champs we were so excited and we put a lot into it. We were shocked to be chosen at the nationals and I am very excited.”

Wendy says the girls need to raise R30 000 each for the trip and the two families have now embarked on a joint fundraising drive.

“Both families don’t have the funds, but we believe in our girls and they have worked very hard. So we decided to arrange various events and together raise the R60 000 to cover both of them.”

Jordan’s mother, Jean, agrees and says together they are working hard to make the girls’ dream come true.

The families will host a Jazz Evening at Musgrave Park Hall in Diep River on Saturday 19 August from 7pm to midnight where Molly Baron will perform.

Tickets are R100 and there will be raffles and prizes.
