A Kreefgat family of a 17-year-old boy is in shock after a gunman casually walked up behind him and shot him dead in the street.
Nathaniel Abrahams was a Grade 10 learner at Arcadia High School.
Police spokesperson Mihlali Majikela confirms the circumstances surrounding a shooting incident that took place on Thursday, 2 July are being investigated.
She said police arrived at the scene on the corner of Netreg and Mahogany Road, Bonteheuwel, to find the body of the boy lying on the ground with fatal gunshot wounds to the head.
A case of murder has been registered for investigation and no arrests have been made as yet.
Nathaniel’s grandmother Ellen Abrahams is struggling to come to terms with his puzzling death.
“His friend said the man who shot him came from behind and he thought he wanted to rob them because he had a cellphone in his pocket, but he shot him,” she said.
She said her grandson was never in any trouble and that they never heard any bad reports about him.

Ellen says Nathaniel was a loveable child and well-known in the community.
“He loved sharing jokes that is why people loved him and he was not involved in any gangs,” she says.
The distraught grandmother says the struggling family is now trying to find a way to bury the boy.
