A young girl from Hanover Park will soon make her dream of publishing her book come true after sharing her story in the Daily Voice.
In just over a week Cassidy Alexander, 13, will be launching her book of 50 poems after Gavin Joachims, the owner of Gavin Joachims Publishing, in Goodwood was inspired by her story.
The Grade 8 learner at Jan Van Riebeeck High School shared her love for reading and writing in December and despite growing up in one of the most gang-infested areas on the Cape Flats, her poetry has kept her grounded and at the library.
The talented meisie has already penned 50 poems and three plays and was lauded by teachers at Parkfield Primary School.
Cassidy says despite raising seven children on Sassa grants, her mom, Sharon, always made time to read with her.
Joachims says after reading her story he offered to publish the book.

“I have edited it and there are only one or two poems I have asked her to have another look at for me. The book will be 50 pages in A5 format,” he says.
“The book has not been named yet, but she has a very strong relationship with her mom so I think it will be along those lines.”
He says the final touches are being done and it will be sent to the printers this week.
At the launch on 2 February books will be on sale for R150, and Cassidy will receive some profits.
Mom Sharon says: “She is excited that her dream is coming true. The family is excited.”
