Police are investigating a possible case of mistaken identity after a popular young Mitchells Plain man was gunned down in his car, while parked with friends in Elsies River on Saturday evening.
André Stevens, 23, from Rocklands, was killed and two of his passengers were wounded after gunmen approached the white Toyota Corolla and opened fire on the car on the corner of Owen Road and Adriaanse Avenue, Clarke Estate, just before 8pm.
According to witnesses, three shooters fired more than 20 shots at the car, and did not attempt to hijack the car or rob its occupants.
Two injured men were transported to hospital, but André, well-known for being a good guy in the community, died of his wounds.
He worked at the Sport-
scene outlet at the Promenade Mall in Mitchells Plain.

One of his friends, Zainup Julies, 22, told the Daily Voice: “He probably gave someone a lift home or was taking someone somewhere. He was a good guy and not involved in gangs or drugs. I can’t believe he was taken so brutally.”
André’s mother was inconsolable at the scene.
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, said a case of murder is under investigation.
