MORE arrests are on the cards, police said, after one suspect was hauled before the court on Friday in connection with the murder of four people in Gugulethu last month.

The bodies of the victims, believed to be in their twenties, were found with multiple gunshot wounds on 4 April in NY 3 and NY 4

At the time, police spokesperson Colonel Andre Traut said detectives from the serious and violent crimes unit are investigating the case.

He added: “Crime scene experts collected evidence, and all available clues are being followed up as part of efforts to track down the perpetrators of the crime. The motive for the killings is yet to be determined.”

At the weekend, police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi says: “The provincial police management commended the tenacity of seasoned detectives attached to the Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit for their commitment when they detained a suspect in connection with a shooting incident where four victims were gunned down in Gugulethu on 4 April 2025 between NY 3 and NY 4.

“Various tracing operations were conducted in an effort to apprehend the suspects and on 7 May 2025, one of the suspects was positively identified as a person of interest for the multiple murders perpetrated.

“The suspect was apprehended after he appeared in court on a none related matter on Wednesday 7 May.

“The suspect will appear on the multiple murder charges in the Athlone Magistrates Court.

“More arrests are imminent as the investigation unfolds.”
