Granny wants her stolen Sassa money

UPSET PENSIONER: Charmaine Adriaanse, 68

A Mitchells Plain pensioner says she is waiting for almost a year for more than R3000 that is owed to her by SASSA.

Charmaine Adriaanse, a 68-year-old Rocklands resident, said she did not withdraw her grant from July till September last year and when she went to collect it, she was told that the money had been fraudulently withdrawn.

“In July, my daughter tested positive for Covid and she was really sick, thank God she is fine now, so we all stayed indoors for sometime,” she says.

“On 10 September, I went to the Shoprite in Rocklands to withdraw my money and they said there was nothing in the account.

“I then went to another Shoprite and they told me the same thing, only when I went to the Post Office in Promenade they told me that the money was taken out of my account and they showed me a printout.

“I still had money left in there from the July payment so with the payments I did not take out during quarantine, I should have R3100.”

Charmaine says she took “countless” taxis to post offices, Shoprite stores and the Mitchells Plain SASSA office trying to get answers.

‘FRAUD’: Woman’s money is missing

“From December, I started to get money again but I had to open a new bank account and I also filled out a form for the stolen R3100 and they told me that it would take five to six months to investigate but it has been 11 months now.

“I want that money because it belongs to me and I do not want to rely on my daughter, because she has an eight-year old and I can look after myself,” says the granny.

SASSA says the case is currently being investigated.
