Brackenfell SAPS are looking for three men who tried to kidnap a 14-year-old girl.
Police spokesperson Captain Erica Crous says the incident occurred on Tuesday around 3.15pm in Paradys Street in Brackenfell.
She says only the girl’s quick-thinking and bravery saved her.
“Brackenfell SAPS is investigating a case of attempted kidnapping after unknown men attempted to grab a 14-year-old girl into their vehicle,” she says.
“According to available information, the girl was walking home from school.
“It is alleged that a blue Volkswagen Polo stopped next to her in Paradys Street, Brackenfell.
“There were three unknown coloured males in the vehicle.
“They spoke to her in Afrikaans and asked if she knew where Green Point was, she said no.”
According to Crous, the front passenger got out of the car and tried to grab the girl, but she was too quick and ran in the opposite direction where she stopped a delivery vehicle for help.
Crous adds that the men in a blue VW Polo fled the scene and that the registration number of the vehicle is unknown.
“The girl was further assisted by the occupants of the delivery vehicle who brought her directly to Brackenfell Police Station.”
Crous says apart from being traumatised, the girl sustained no injuries and was assisted by members of Brackenfell SAPS Victim Support.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about this incident is requested to contact Warrant Officer Raymond Saville of Brackenfell Detective Branch on 079 522 1790.
