This tiny Cape Flats soccer star is only eight years old and is already gearing up for his first international tournament.
Sabrie Losper is getting ready to leave for Portugal in June, where he will participate in the Iber Cup.
Sabrie has been playing in his club’s under-10 team since he was five years old.
The little goalkeeper from Steenberg is klein maar getrain, and is famous for his lightning fast moves, stopping goals from his opponents.
His mom Yusra Losper, 36, says her talented son is often mobbed after games as mense want to take selfies with him.
She says Sabrie was scouted to join the RB6 Soccer School in Rondebosch last August, and he received a scholarship.
“This school is very good and we would never be able to pay the fees, but we were approached by the school because of his excellent skills,” she says.
“We are extremely proud of Sabrie for all he has achieved at such a young age.
“He doesn’t even realise how big this is because he is still so small.
“Sometimes after his games, others want to take pictures with him but he doesn’t understand why they fuss about him,” the proud mom adds humbly.
She says they have the R30 000 needed for Sabrie’s trip and are busy raising R10 000 to send her husband along, because she would not be able to sleep knowing her little boy was alone in a strange country.
Local comedian Keenan Cerff, 25, from Steenberg, has offered his help in the form of a comedy show with his friends Rob van Vuuren, Dalin Oliver, Carl Weber and Reagan Allen.
“I’m doing this to make this kid’s dream come true. I hope this inspires other kids and just let's them know there’s hope if they work hard enough,” says Keenan.
Yusra says they are grateful to Keenan.
“Keenan has put this entire show together without us lifting a finger. His passion towards our talented youth speaks volumes.”
On Friday at Steenberg High School hall, catch the Keenan Cerff and Friends Comedy Show.
Tickets cost R120 at the door and R100 pre-sold. Call Keenan on 061 399 5363 for tickets.
