A 31-year-old Riverton resident has opened up after his gatemaker decided to become the keeper of his gate for more than a month.
Shaun Williams says he paid the man a R6 360 deposit for the motorised gate.
The job included a runner and guide for the gate, at the total cost of R10 600.
Shaun says he contacted Afford A Gate’s Denzil Pieterse early in March, who after telephonic and email correspondence, said he could deliver the metal hek by 4 April.
“I made a payment of R6 360 on 13 March. They started working soon thereafter installing the runner and a guide,” explains Shaun.
“The guide was incorrect. I never ordered it and told him so.
“He keeps promising to finish it and it has been more than a month since the payment and we are sitting with a home that is not secure.”
In an email sent to Shaun on 8 April, Pieterse said he had every intention of finishing the gate but had a personal matter to deal with.
On Monday he told the Daily Voice he had mounted the guide into the wall instead of in a separate pillar/pole.
He also said the materials required were hard to get.
WHAT THE HEK? Denzil Pieterse
“I explained to my client that I was struggling to get the materials. I subcontracted the job and the person used the wrong materials to do the job,” Pieterse said.
“I, unfortunately, had to delay until I could get the proper composite plastic in the correct colour. I also bought the motor myself.
“Except for being 11 days late, I am trying my best and have spoken to the client. The project will be done by the end of this week,” Pieterse said.
But Williams said he is not convinced: “He keeps on promising to finish it, but I am still waiting. We will see if he comes.”
