The leader and national spokesperson for civic organisation G@tvol Capetonian appeared in the Bishop Lavis Magistrates’ Court on Thursday on charges of intimidation, assault common and crimen injuria, after he threatened “moer” Bonteheuwel ward councillor Angus Mckenzie.

In a video made in his car, Fadiel Adams said he will moer Angus if he sees him and called him a DA lapdog.

This was after Mckenzie criticised him for organising the Total Shutdown protest last week which the City of Cape Town said caused damages to public infrastructure in excess of R1.5 million.

The protest was in support of backyard-dwellers waiting for social housing.

Adams walked into court without an attorney and told the magistrate he would be representing himself.

Mckenzie was not at the court.

The matter was postponed to 12 September for further investigation.

Outside court, about 20 people gathered to support Adams.

“I am grateful for the support received and yes I have decided to represent myself in this matter. I will not be scared off by the likes of McKenzie and he must come to court at the next date. He will be my main witness,” Adams says.

On Wednesday, Adams laid charges at Mitchells Plain SAPS against the City’s JP Smith after Smith blamed him for the violence during the protest.

The City said it would lay criminal charges against G@tvol Capetonian and sue Adams to pay for the damages.
