The 14-year-old son of a recently murdered alleged gang leader from Athlone has been shot and injured in what is believed to be an attempt on his life.
The boy is the son of Shafiek ‘Fiekie Viking’ Meyer, 42, from Bokmakierie who was shot outside a mosque on 15 March.
Sources said the boy was shot “out of revenge” for his father’s alleged crimes.
On Friday evening, the high school pupil was apparently followed by three men, one of whom opened fire on him just off 11th Avenue in Bokmakierie.
The bullet struck him in the ankle.
Meyer was the owner of the Mother City klopse troupe.
He was arrested last year for allegedly being behind a shooting in which an 11-year old boy, Asheeq Mitchell, was shot and killed in front of his house in 12th Avenue in 2018.
He was also believed to be behind the shooting in which 6-year-old Saadiqah Lippert was shot and killed in her grandmother’s driveway, also in 12th Avenue in 2017.
It was alleged Meyer gave the orders for two gang hits and the children were killed in the crossfire.
On Sunday, a member of the Bokmakierie community said Meyer’s “sins did not die with him”.
The 64-year-old ouma says it appears skollies are now targeting family members in revenge shootings.
“No child deserves to be threatened, hurt or killed for the sins of their father. Fiekie chose his life, but his son is a nice boy who still has his entire life ahead of him,” she says.
A family member said hewas “out of danger and recovering” at home.
Provincial cops said they had no record of the shooting.
