FEAR: Delft NHW members demand back-up from cops after family member is killed FEAR: Delft NHW members demand back-up from cops after family member is killed
Delft Neighbourhood Watch members are demanding help from the police saying skollies are now targeting them and their families.
This comes after the relative of a NHW member was killed in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The 25-year-old man was shot multiple times by men while on his way home from his aunt’s house in Gilo Street.
The team leader for the NHW in Delft, Reggie Hills, says the family has asked for the victim not to be identified as this may endanger their lives.
He says the victim was innocent and not affiliated to any gangs in the area.
According to Hills, the man was the cousin of a NHW patroller, and was killed on the corner of Usuto and Tanqua Street.
“The community in Delft has grown immensely in the last few months and this has also brought with it an increase in gang activity,” HIlls says.
“We have requested the police to help us. They call this a partnership, but what are they doing for the community? We are on the ground patrolling all the time and have no back-up.
“We, the NHW, are being targeted by gangs in the area and Delft police are not doing anything to help us.”
Police spokesperson, Siyabulela Malo, confirmed the incident and says no arrests have been made yet: “A case of murder has been opened for investigation after a shooting incident occurred at Usutu and Tanqua Street, Leiden, Delft in the early hours of yesterday morning at about 4.38am.
“Upon their arrival they found a 25-year-old male shot and fatally wounded and he died on the scene due to his injuries,” Malo.
