FEAR has gripped Tafelsig after a shooting rocked the area just days after schools reopened, leaving community leaders worried about the toll on children who are trying to settle back into the classroom.
Mitchells Plain Community Policing Forum (CPF) Public Relations Officer Linda Jones said that they are condemning the shootings especially given that schools just started.
This comes after skote were klapping in the area on Tuesday on Lebombo Steet.
Jones said: “It really traumatised our children. And at the end of it all, every child is affected differently. Their school progress is affected.”
“Their minds and brains are not focusing because of fear and all along these thugs don’t care.”
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said: “The circumstances surrounding a shooting incident on Tuesday afternoon, 20 January 2026, in Lebombo Street, Tafelsig, where a 33-year-old male was shot and wounded are under investigation.
“Police members attended to a complaint of a shooting and upon arrival on the scene they were informed that the victim was transported to a medical facility for treatment in a private vehicle. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to his back.
“According to reports the victim was approached by unknown suspects who opened fire on him before fleeing the scene.”
He added that Mitchells Plain detectives are investigating an attempted murder case.
