Portland man shot through door at his home

A MITCHELLS Plain man was shot through the front door of his home in alleged gang hit.

The shooting happened at around 10.25pm on Sunday night at a premises in Germiston Road, Portland, where a 33-year-old man was shot multiple times.

According to Daily Voice sources, it is alleged that the skelms came to knock at the man’s door before opening fire.

The source said: “There were eleven bullets lying there, the guy closed the door and shot him through the door or window. The suspect is a member of some grouping.”

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed that Mitchells Plain police registered an attempted murder case for investigation following the incident.

Twigg said: “The victim sustained gunshot wounds to his body and was transported to a medical facility for treatment. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and arrests are yet to be made.”

Earlier the same day, another shooting was reported in Beacon Valley.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said a male was found lying in the street in Tennis Street at around 16:45 with a gunshot wound to his head.

“According to reports the 50-year-old victim was standing in front of the premises, when an unidentified assailant just came up to him and shot him in the head. Mitchell's Plain police registered a murder case,” Van Wyk said.

Mitchells Plain Community Policing Forum (CPF) chairperson Norman Jantjes said the shootings highlight the urgent need to address gang violence in the area.

He said: “We are appealing directly to the gangsters think about what you are doing and the impact on the community.”
