Man shot in alleged gang hit at Kensington train station

A MAN from Manenberg was fatally shot in what police believe was a gang-related attack, leaving the community shaken and concerned about safety in Kensington.

The incident occurred on Thursday at around 11.30am at Mutual Railway Station. 

According to a security guard at the station, they saw three mense running, however he was not sure what they were running from. 

Mense claim that the deceased is from Manenberg and was on his way home after visiting someone in the area.

Ward Councillor Cheslyn Steenberg said the circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated.

Steenberg said: “I want to believe that the investigation will tell us exactly what happened and why. 

“If this shooting is gang-related - I want to urge the community to come forward with information. I am concerned about the scholars having returned to school - their safety and that of teachers. This is a nightmare, we are living in.”

According to a Daily Voice source, following the shooting incident, skote were allegedly klapping in several streets in Factreton, including Glider Crescent, Ventura Street, Lugmag Street, Salamander Street and Drommedaris Street.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said: “Circumstances surrounding a shooting incident on Thursday, 15 January at 11.30am at Mutual railway station, Kensington, in which an adult was shot and fatally wounded are under investigation. Kensington police registered a murder case for investigation.

“According to reports, SAPS members received a complaint of a shooting incident and on their arrival found the body of a male laying in front of the walkway to the railway platform. 

“The deceased had several gunshot wounds to his back. Victim was declared deceased on scene. The motive is believed to be gang-related.”

Meanwhile, in Muizenberg cops registered a murder and attempted murder case for investigation following a shooting at a premises in St Patrick Street, Seawinds early this morning at 5.45am.
