Two high-flying gunmen of the Junky Funky Kidz gang wanted for a spate of murders in Steenberg and Muizenberg are behind bars after intelligence-driven operations.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk says the two suspects have been linked to a total of nine murders and 13 attempted murders, which include the death of one-year-old Cafda toddler, Tashwell Junior Nel.
He says due to a significant increase in murder and attempted murder cases, cops are cracking down on the Junky Funkies and have discovered there are repeat offenders behind the shootings.
He says Anderson “Bougaard” Koeberg, 27, the alleged leader and shooter for the gang in Muizenberg and Steenberg, has been linked to five murders and 11 attempted murder cases.
During proceedings at the Wynberg Magistrate's Court last week during the murder case for Tashwell, it was revealed that cops had found Bougaard in Pollsmoor Prison after he had been arrested earlier that week for possession of a hijacked car.
CAPTURED: Lyle Montego Silver
Little Tashwell was killed on 8 July after being struck in the head by a gang bullet during a drive-by shooting.
The child was sitting on his uncle’s lap in a parked car outside his home in Komlossy Street when the shooting happened just after 8 pm.
Shortly after his death, cops arrested Junky Funky gang member Dillon Absolon for the drive-by shooting and indicated that two suspects were still being sought.
Van Wyk says Bougaard, who is also linked to a hijacking case, was charged on 9 November for Tashwell’s murder and the attempted murder of his relatives who were sitting in the car with him and appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate's Court on Monday.

“The matter was postponed to 23 November for legal counsel and he will appear in the Muizenberg Magistrate's Court. He remains in custody,” said Van Wyk.
He said the second alleged hitman, Lyle “Trompie” Montego Silver, 24, was positively linked to four murder cases, two attempted murder cases and one business robbery.
“He was arrested on Wednesday and on the same day he appeared in the Muizenberg Magistrate's Court on these charges.
“His bail application was abandoned and the matter was postponed to 17 January for further investigations, centralisation of cases, as well as the institution of POCA (Prevention of Organised Crime Act), charges. He remains in custody.”

Van Wyk said more members of the gang linked to murders will be arrested soon.
