A former cop who allegedly joined a gang in Mitchells Plain has been arrested with 10 other skollies on 50 charges including murder.
The 11 are all alleged members of the Junior Cisco Yakkies and are being charged under the Prevention of Organised Crime Act (Poca).
Penelope “Penny” Ventura, 37, was nabbed on 25 October.
She and her 10 co-accused are expected to be back at the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court on Monday for the continuation of their bail application.
The 10 other suspects cannot be identified until a formal identity parade is conducted.
On Thursday, the 11 suspects appeared before Magistrate Juma.
The matter is expected to be heard at the Western Cape High Court for trial at a later stage.
Ventura, who is believed to be paralysed, arrived in court in a wheelchair.
This, after she was shot in the chest and leg in her Tulip Street, Lentegeur, home in November last year.
“The homeowner is a former police officer and she now has drug ties, working as a merchant for the Yakkies,” said a crime fighter, who did not want to be identified.
The State is set to prove that the shooting in which she was injured, was a retaliatory attack by the rival Fancy Boys gang.
The two gangs have been in a drug turf war for years.
The 11 suspects face 50 charges ranging from murder, attempted murder, the illegal possession of ammunition and the illegal possession of unlicensed firearms to theft of a motor vehicle.
Ventura is allegedly involved in the murder of a man who was killed after drugs were stolen from the gang.
The six murder charges include that of Ridah Bamini in March 2015, Brian Hendricks in August 2017, Shando Adams in September 2017, Faiza Hendricks in September 2017, Tasrique Attwood in September 2018 and Rodwell Links in February 2019.
Police say all the murders happened in Mitchells Plain.
The identities of the victims who were wounded in the shootings may not be revealed due to safety reasons.
Ventura first made Daily Voice headlines in August 2018 when she was piemped for being an alleged mert for the Yakkies.
