Several pregnant women in Scottsdene received a surprise gift and treat from a local organisation in honour of Mother’s Day.
The Rainbow Family Foundation arrived to treat about 200 children and pregnant women to a meal while the moms-to-be also received gift packs.
Andrew Simon, the founder of Rainbow Family says the gift packs were sponsored by a generous donor and contained items that will assist the moms when they give birth.
“We have identified several mothers in need and we got sponsors to make up the gift bags consisting of nappies and wet wipes, among other things.
“Most of these mothers do not have any form of income, but some are also single mothers whose partners left them high and dry after finding out about the pregnancy.
“This is a sad state of affairs and we decided to assist.
“My wife Deonita got up early to cook the curry and rice and before we served the hot lunch we all enjoyed a spiritual dance performance.
One of the pregnant moms, Antonette Maarman, 27, thanked the foundation saying: “I really appreciate what they’ve done for us today, we are grateful for these gift packs.”
Another pregnant woman, Vanessa Simons, 31, adds: “It was lovely being honoured like this for Mother’s Day. Elke bietjie help.”
