Walking Bus community worker, Gertrude Cloete, 47, from Devon Park says she had driven the children in her care to school when they came across the scene.
She says it was cold and raining: “I did not even want to stop, as the children were already fussy and leaning over each other when they saw the traffic official’s car. The police were not even there yet,” she said sadly.
Cloete said she is still surprised people do things like this when there are so many places to leave your child.
“We don’t know where the child comes from, but all we can do is pray. A year ago there was also a foetus dumped here. The poor children have to witness all these things. I told them it was a dog lying there, to make them settle down.”
Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana confirms a docket has been opened.
“Kindly be advised that an inquest case has been opened for investigation after a foetus was found this morning in Eerste River. Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation,” says Rwexana.
