Andile Mkonjiswa, 53, who works for a call centre, thought the lump of red meat was a piece of steak.

“I was busy dumping rubbish in the big green bin outside and also sorting through what goes into which bin. I saw this weird red thing that looked like steak and thought someone probably did not want it, and threw it away.
“Then I poked it [with a stick] and realised it was a baby. It was not completely formed yet, but I got such a fright, I fetched my boss,” Andile says.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirms the foetus of a baby girl was found at about 10.30am on Friday.
“Bellville police members attended a complaint about a foetus in a dustbin. On arrival at the scene, members found the ambulance personnel already there. They went to the dustbin in front of a building of flats in Voortrekker Road and found a baby girl wrapped in a piece of cloth with flower patterns on it,” he says.
“The foetus was discovered by cleaning personnel. She was declared dead on the scene by the ambulance personnel. An inquest was opened for investigation. A post mortem will be conducted to determine cause of death. The investigation continues,” says van Wyk.
