A community has been left shaken after five people were shot within 24 hours in an ongoing gang war.
The most recent incident in Lavender Hill was on Tuesday morning when a 28-year-old man was shot and killed while three others, aged 17 to 22, were injured.
SAPS’ FC van Wyk says the shooting happened in Grindel Avenue around 6.30am: “According to reports unknown suspects driving in a white vehicle started shooting at the victims and fled the scene.
“The victims were taken to a nearby medical facility for medical treatment.”
Van Wyk says no arrests have been made yet: “Cases of murder and attempted murder was opened for investigation.”
On Monday afternoon, Keenan Classen, 19, was murdered by suspected skollies in St Charles Street in Hillview. His tjommie was also shot and wounded.
Keenan’s mom Moira says he was with his friends when the incident occurred.
She says her son was not a skollie and they don’t know why he was killed.
“I was at work when I received a call about the shooting.
“My son was a jovial person who was very friendly and was never a gangster.
“He was taking a gap year after he passed matric last year.”
Captain Van Wyk says no one has been arrested for this murder.
“Muizenberg Police are investigating cases of murder and attempted murder after a shooting incident in St Charles Street, Hill View, Muizenberg, where a 19-year-old man was shot and fatally wounded and another male injured,” he says.
“He was shot by unknown suspect/s who are yet to be arrested. The circumstances are being investigated.”
