The heartbroken family of slain UWC lecturer Valentino van de Heyde, 34, are appealing for help to crack the murder case of the father who was shot and killed last year.
After 10 months, Valentino’s family says they are no closer to finding out the truth.
His younger brother, Lorenzo, 32, says they got a skrik when they were called to the crime scene on 1 September where the dad of two who worked as a lecturer in the Mathematics and Physical Sciences Department at UWC was found in the driver’s seat of his Chevrolet Spark in Imperial Street in Eastridge.
“We do not know why he was in Mitchells Plain that day because on a Sunday he is usually marking papers,” Lorenzo says.
“They told us on the scene that he was shot once in the head and that the bullet was fired from inside the car and entered his head on the left side and exited on the right side.
“The detective gave us the case number and his contact number. Valentino was laid to rest on 14 September, but we never heard anything from them again.”
Heartbroken mom Denise, 60, says : “I just want to know how this happened.”
Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana says a new detective has been assigned to the case.
“The new investigating officer of the case is Sergeant Angus November and he will contact the family to inform them, there is no development in the case,” she says.
Lorenzo has appealed to anyone with information about his brother’s murder to contact the police.
