A Tafelsig family will be having a black Christmas after their Wendy house burnt to the ground on Monday morning.
Lorenzo Robyn, 35, and his family lost everything when their 3x9 metre Wendy house in Megan Street was engulfed by flames.
The father of three says he and his family were talking and joking around during load shedding when they smelled smoke.
“I went out to look and saw our neighbour’s house was burning and there was nobody home.
“As I tried to get to the flames (to put them out), in the blink of an eye our Wendy house in which we have been living in for almost eight years also caught alight.
“My wife managed to get out with the children and fortunately no one was hurt,” Lorenzo explains.

When the Daily Voice arrived on the scene on Tuesday, the heartbroken father was looking through the debris.
“We did not start shopping for food yet, but we had already bought our children their clothes for Christmas.
“I was working part-time as a pipe insulator but my documents all burnt so I can’t work now.
“My wife is unemployed. All my son’s medals, diplomas and trophies of his
academic achievements also burnt,” Lorenzo says sadly.
The Daily Voice also went to the neighbour’s home that burnt, but he was not in.
