COPS busted two teens for armed robbery after they were caught with an imitation firearm.
A pair of male suspects, one aged 16 and the other 17, were gevang on the railway lines in Pinelands after hold mense up with a fake gun.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg reports: “On Monday, 21 April 2025, members of Maitland Flying Squad were stopped by community members on the corner of Viking Way and Gunner Circle in Epping, who informed them about two suspects who are robbing people with a firearm.
“The members searched for the suspects and found them walking on the railway lines in Pinelands.
“They were searched and found in possession of an imitation firearm. The suspects were pointed out by the complainant and were arrested on charges of possession of an imitation firearm and armed robbery.”
Twigg says they were set to make their first appearance in the Cape Town Magistrates Court yesterday.
In an unrelated intervention, members of the Anti-Gang Unit conducted foot patrols in Heinz Park, Mitchells Plain when they stopped and searched a male who appeared to be nervous when he saw the police members.
They found a 9mm pistol with four rounds of ammunition in his possession. He did not have a license to possess the firearm and was subsequently arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The suspect will appear in the Athlone Magistrates Court once he has been charged.
