GONE: Azola Mbinda ‘killed after a night out’

Former PAC president Luthando Mbinda is reeling in shock following the gruesome murder of his son Azola on Sunday.

The 34-year-old was found murdered with bloody rocks next to his body in Khayelitsha’s Mississippi Way.

It is believed he was attacked on Saturday night after a night out.

He had been in Cape Town for two months looking for work.

The heartbroken father of eight tells the Daily Voice: “I was told by my brother that they found his body in the morning.

“The information we have shows that he was attacked and we do not know whether he was also stabbed or shot but there were bloody rocks next to his body.

“We are waiting for the postmortem which will give us more information.”

Azola was murdered not far from a popular hangout place called Epakini where people park cars, blast music and enjoy drinks.

It is believed that he was there alone.

He had left East London to look for employment and reunite with the mother of his child.

“He has a seven-year-old child and he was living with the mother of the child. It is still difficult to accept that he is no more,” says Luthando.

“We had just completed building a house together this side. We were close, but he liked being independent.”

Relative Thulani Phike from Nyanga adds: “We are all shocked. A young life taken away like that. We want to know what led to his death.”

Meanwhile, the police did not respond queries about the incident by the time of going to print.
