The body count in Delft has risen, with a shocking 26 people now murdered in less than a month.

On Thursday at 5.30pm, a 37-year-old man was shot in the head in Melkhout Street, Delft South, becoming the eighth murder in the area in less than a week.

A 15-year-old boy was also shot in the head but survived. He was rushed to hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.

Three more people were killed at the weekend.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk says on Saturday night, two men were shot and killed in Omsambeet Road in Delft South.

And in the early hours of Sunday morning, a 28-year-old man was stabbed to death in Bard Crescent in Leiden.

Van Wyk explains the teen and man were shot in the street on Thursday.

He says murder and attempted murder cases have been registered for all the incidents.

“The suspects are currently unknown and the motive is possibly gang-related” says Van Wyk.

Most of Delft’s murders have the same modus operandi, where victims are shot in the head at close range.

In Blikkiesdorp the leader of the Gifted gang was shot in the head last week Sunday.

His gang sought revenge on black people in the camp and shot two men in the private parts at a tavern.

Reggie Maart, chairperson of the Blue Downs Cluster Board, said cops brought calm to the area after 108 black residents threatened to move out because of the sporadic attacks following the death of a
foreign national last month.

Previous victims include dad of three, Bradley Williams, who was shot in Roosendal after returning from a friend.
