A man was shocked to death while he was allegedly stealing electricity in Kraaifontein.
Residents of Covid informal settlement on Botfontein Road in Wallacedene found his body early Wednesday morning.
“I saw the body lying in the water here by our shacks, and called the others,” says a resident.
“We do not know the person but you can see that he was trying to steal electricity but was shocked because he was standing in the water while holding the live cables.
“He still had the pliers in his hand to connect the cables and his rucksack on his back.”
According to a female bystander, the man is from Watsonia Park and was released from jail last week.
Police spokesman Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi confirms: “Kraaifontein police registered an inquest docket for further investigation.
“Police members attended the crime scene early (Wednesday) morning at Covid Squatter Camp in Wallacedene.
“Upon arrival at the scene, the community members pointed out the lifeless body of an unknown man between the shacks.
“The victim, a 26-year-old man, was declared deceased on the scene.”
