Yesterday the Economic Freedom Fighters in the Western Cape grew their ranks by just over 100 when former Democratic Alliance members from Ravensmead and Gugulethu decided to become fighters.
Three are former officials of the DA, while all the other members are average citizens, looking for a political party “who cares”.
Former DA ward councillor and subcouncil chairperson Freddie Kearns said he was tired of the DA’s lies.
“Officials of the party sit there and earn the big salary and the people get promises, but nothing ever happens. I just had enough,” says Kearns.
Warnick October, former ward councillor in the Cape Agulhas municipality (Elim), resigned from the party last year, tired of “white rule”.
EFF provincial chairperson, Bernard Joseph welcomed the new members: “Our vulnerable need to be protected from the greedy blue machine. Only the EFF can stop ... Patricia de Lille and [Helen] Zille’s anti-poor and anti-working class agenda.”
DA Media manager Anneke Scheepers says the mense joining the EFF are not DA members.
She says: “Those who joined the EFF... are not DA members, they are people who have either been let go by the DA due to non-performance, or who have ties with the Patriotic Alliance. They wear DA T-shirts and remove it as if they are crossing the floor, it’s all for show. The reality is the EFF is a party of zero growth that only knows how to cause chaos and incite hate.”
