Metro police made multiple arrests this week, removing guns, ammunition and drugs off the streets in both Macassar and Manenberg.
The first arrest on Wednesday night took place after a tip-off from the community in Macassar.
Shortly before 9pm Metro cops were alerted to an illegal firearm at a house. They questioned the owner and requested a search of the premises, to which he consented.
Metro Police spokesperson, Sergeant Ruth Solomons, says the officers made several discoveries at the house.
“The officers followed up and found a 9mm Taurus firearm, 32 rounds of ammunition including 3 x 12 gauge shotgun rounds, 20 x .38 special live rounds, 8 x 9mm live rounds, a 7.65mm live round and an empty magazine.”
They also found a bankie containing dagga.
“A 23-year-old male was arrested for being in possession of an illegal firearm including ammunition and being in possession of drugs,” Solomons said.
Also in Macassar, officers arrested a 28-year-old man for possession of 5 x 9mm live rounds of ammunition and four suspects for possession of drugs.
Confiscated items included 53 bankies of tik, 14 tik straws and 20 dagga stoppe.
Later that night in Manenberg, a 42-year-old male was arrested for possession of 35 mandrax tablets.
