A taxi owner from Uitsig says he and his passengers are lucky to be alive after two skollies opened fire on them on Tuesday.
Eugene Abbott, 51, says he got such a skrik that he sped away leaving two passengers behind.
He says shortly after 7am he left Uitsig and stopped in Connaught Road.
“There were passengers in the van and I just stopped to get two people. I was on my way to Parow,” he explains.
“As I was standing there, something told me to look to the right and I saw two skollies walking towards us. The one took out a gun and started shooting.

“Luckily the van was in first gear so I could pull away easily. But I just drove and left the two people behind. Three bullets hit the van but luckily nobody was injured.
“I don’t know if they were going to rob us but I have been driving the whole week because a lot of my drivers are scared. Some of the skollies have asked me for money but I have refused. The police are really letting us down, we have brought this up over and over again and we know in the past drivers have been killed.”
Police spokesperson, Captain Hein Hendricks, confirms: “A case of attempted murder was registered for investigation at Ravensmead SAPS. No one was injured during the incident. The motive must still be established and the suspects are yet to be arrested.”
