Jaden Mias, 13, has been selected to represent Cape Town at the 2017 Phuket International Youth Football Cup in December.
Last week, his mother Chantal told the Daily Voice they were sukkeling to fund his trip and appealed to readers to help make her child’s dream come true.
THANKFUL: Mom Chantal Mias
“We’re living in Bridgetown and it is very hard to raise a boy right, especially with gangsters and tik everywhere,” said the mom.
“Jaden does so well in soccer and we want to make his dream come true, but there is no money.”
She told the Daily Voice the family needed R2 500 by 30 June to secure his spot on the tour.
Chantal says on Friday the family was blessed by a guardian angel who sponsored the money after reading Jaden’s story.
“I was on my way to Gatesville [to get] Jaden [medicine as he] was sick last week when a lady called,” she says.
“She didn’t want to give her name, but said she had read the story and wants to bless him with the R2500.
“She asked for the bank account number and sent us the money. We paid it immediately to secure his spot [on the team].
“You know, we are very thankful to the Daily Voice for coming out to hear Jaden’s story and for putting it in the paper. We can’t say how thankful we are and Jaden is very excited.”
The tournament takes place in December and the family has until mid-November to raise R24 000.
On Saturday, they will host an Old School Disco Dance fundraiser at Athlone High School.
The jol starts at 7pm and entry is R50. Call Chantal on 083 475 2371 for more information.
