DNA samples from the man accused of killing his 14-year-old cousin matched the samples collected from the dead meisie’s body at the crime scene, the court heard on Thursday.
The accused’s lawyer also handed in “admissions”, stating he had given DNA samples such as pubic hair and a mucus swab taken from inside the mouth on 2 July 2017, the same day of the murder.
In the dock at the Western Cape High Court was Moegemat Yagyah Robyn, 20, accused of raping and killing his cousin, Camron Britz, in Ocean View last year.
The court heard that during a post-mortem at Salt River Mortuary on 3 July, by Dr Itumeleng Molefe, DNA evidence was taken from Camron’s clothing, vagina, and anus.
The State is set to prove that Robyn had lured Camron away from a gallieblik fire at a block of flats in Ocean View on Saturday, 1 July, under the pretence that her father was calling her.
Hours later Camron’s younger brother, who was part of a search party, found her half-naked body in the bush along Slangkop Street.
She had been raped anally and vaginally and was strangled to death with a ligature of river weed which was also shoved into her mouth.
The girl’s father, Melwyn Robyn, testified that he never called his daughter.
On Thursday, the investigating officer, Sergeant Moeketsi Raphala, stationed at Ocean View SAPS and with 15 years experience, testified that on 2 July, Robyn came running into the police station with his father, claiming the community had assaulted him after accusing him of murdering Camron.
He said DNA samples from seven men who had been around the fire with Camron were taken.
VICTIM: Camron Britz
The only person’s DNA to match those found at the crime scene was Robyn’s.
“We took the DNA of every male, even the uncle of the deceased who had been around the fire with her that night,” Raphala said.
“The results pointed out to that (DNA) found on the deceased.”
State prosecutor, Liezl Herbst, informed Judge Yasmin Shenaz Meer that a forensic analyst and the State pathologist would shed more light on the DNA analysis.
Robyn’s lawyer Advocate Emile de Villiers then put it to Raphala that he and a State witness, Tino Woodward, who he claimed was a Junky Funky Kid skollie, “plotted” to have his client arrested.
Raphala said these were serious allegations and said: “No gold or a million dollars can pay me because we are dealing with a case where a 14-year-old child was murdered.”
Tino testified that he had seen Robyn just after 3am on Sunday, 2 July, at Francis Court, which has a path leading to the bush where Camron’s body was found.
