A LAW enforcement officer was busted and arrested during a multi-disciplinary intelligence operation in Bellville yesterday.
The 43-year-old official faces charges of kidnapping, extortion, murder and defeating the ends of justice after a victim was allegedly abducted in Kraaifontein on 16 May.
According to the docket, the victim was lured to Bellville when he was offered a deal to buy a vehicle, but instead he was kidnapped and held for ransom. Initially, R100 000 was demanded, however further calls were made by the suspects reducing the amount to R10 000.
The suspects provided a bank account where the money was expected to be deposited into. However it is alleged that an amount of R5 000 was deposited, but the suspects demanded the balance.
After the money didn’t arrive, the victim was killed and buried in a shallow grave near Monwabisi Beach.
It led to the arrests of Mogamat Samuels, 33, Thokozani Kamnjunga, 36, Existing Mudivari, 33, and Yasseen Jele, 30, on 17 May. The quartet have already made a court appearance.
Further investigation led to a City of Cape Town law enforcement vehicle which was driven by the suspect.
The law enforcement officer is alleged to have used an official vehicle in the commission of the crime.
Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi said of the officer’s arrest: “This arrest stems from an incident on 16 May 2025. He is appearing in Blue Downs Magistrates Court on 10 June. The charges he is facing are extortion, kidnapping and murder.
“He will also face a charge for defeating the ends of justice.”
City of Cape Town law enforcement spokesperson Wayne Dyason said they can confirm the arrest of the official.
Dyason adds: “The officer who is stationed at the Anti-Land Invasion Unit was arrested amid an investigation by our Safety and Security Information Management Systems (SSIMS) unit in collaboration with the [HAWKS]...
:When approached for assistance, our teams worked diligently to aid the Hawks’ investigation.
“We will continue to cooperate with SAPS to ensure a swift conclusion to the investigation and prosecution.”
He added that while the arrest is disappointing, the Safety and Security Directorate is committed to rooting out corruption and criminal elements in their ranks.
The department said they would not hesitate to investigate and take the required action when wrongdoing is uncovered.
