A high-ranking gangster appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court on Thursday after he was caught breaking into cars in Milnerton.
According to a report from Crime Watch SA, the skollie, who is a member of the 26 gang, was caught on CCTV cameras at Sunset Beach.
The skollie has allegedly been targeting the cars of surfers at the same spot for almost a month now, but was caught on Monday when he used a screwdriver to force open a white VW Golf and stole a woman’s handbag.
According to the report, security personnel in the control room noticed the suspect getting out of his blue Mazda, and trying to break into a rental vehicle parked at Winkle Beachfront.
Guards were dispatched and the control room staff followed the suspect’s movements on camera to Donnax Beachfront.
“Control room monitored the suspect and saw him forcing entry into a parked VW Golf.”
Guards caught him with his hands in the cookie jar and he was handed over to Milnerton police.
Police spokesperson, Sinathi Joni, says the 33-year-old suspect appeared in court on Thursday.
According to a source on the scene, officers were surprised to see a high-ranking skollie engaging in petty theft.
“We saw the tattoos on his shoulder and then he lifted his sweater. Toe sien ons hy is ’* general van die sesse.
“We have no idea why he would be doing such petty crime because normally they get boys to do it for them, but this ou was operating alone.
“This must be an arme general,” the source joked.
