A young man, who was trying to run away from armed gangsters, was killed after being mowed down by a bus.
And when the bus driver tried to call for help, skollies threw out all the vehicle’s windows.
Godwin Adams, 22, was riding his bicycle on Keerom Street, Kleinvlei, when the members of the Mobster gang got out of a car and chased after him.
A police source says: “He was riding in a Mobster territory and they chased him with guns.
“He was trying to save his own life but unfortunately got hit by the bus.”
Godwin’s mother Wendy Swartz, 43, tells the Daily Voice that she doesn’t know anything about the gangsters chasing her son.
“When I arrived there, he was already laying in the street, the paramedics then arrived and declared him dead,” the mom says.
“I noticed that the bus still had passengers in it.”
Golden Arrow Bus Services (GABS) spokesperson Bronwen Dyke-Beyer says the accident occurred at approximately 5.30pm: “Witness information corroborates that as our bus was passing by a third party stationery vehicle, occupants from the vehicle alighted and seemed to chase a cyclist who then rode into the path of the passing bus.
“Our driver could not possibly have avoided the cyclist who tragically passed away at the scene.”
She adds that the driver was attempting to call for help when the bus came under attack from a large group of bystanders who threw bricks through every window, further traumatising passengers.
“The bystanders repeatedly attacked our bus driver and also robbed him of his personal belongings.
“He suffered serious head injuries and shock and has been hospitalised.”
“Golden Arrow sends our most sincere condolences to the family of the deceased gentleman during this very difficult time.
“We must, however, also condemn the absolutely criminal behaviour of the bystanders.”
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg says they are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
